The Ways of Water
Moiz Adnan sheds light on a pertinent change he has made to his own dietary habits. Inspired by the positive effect it has had on his own life, he elucidates this in a thirst-quenching anecdotal piece.
I have recently started drinking more water because I wanted to test how it helped my day to day life. I found a range of benefits both mental and physical. I was drinking an average of 5.5 litres a day and this is how it affected me throughout the 2 month long experiment.

- My skin
Your skin contains plenty of water, and functions as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss. A week after I started drinking more water, my skin flourished, many pimples and blackheads I had started disappearing. My skin appeared more smooth, clear, and rosy. This led to a boost in my confidence whenever I was out in public.
- Joint pain
Many parts of my body, such as my elbows and knees would ache when doing anything slightly physically demanding. On the other hand, after increasing my water intake, all of my joint pains seemed to magically vanish. I was able to exercise for longer periods of time and would have more fun while I was doing it.
- Energy
Muscle fatigue can be caused by cells that do not maintain a healthy balance of fluids and electrolytes. After upping my water intake, I felt less sluggish throughout the day, I had more energy and the quality of my exercise increased as I felt more hydrated. As a result of the exercise, I put on more muscle mass and became stronger within the two months.
On the right is an example of how much water I would drink in one of the 8 weeks of which I was doing my research.
As a result of this, my skin thrived, energy improved, and my joint pains disappeared. Inspired by these changes, I am going to permanently start drinking around 5 litres of water a day, to see if the benefits continue.
Have a go and let me know how you get on?
